Weather Update: New Delhi recorded a low of 10.3 degrees Celsius on Monday, which is 3.5 degrees above average. The city’s air quality was moderate at 178 by 9 am.

Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicates that a new western disturbance will impact North India starting January 4. There is a heightened chance of rain and snowfall in the region. According to IMD, this disturbance is expected to affect North-West India from the night of January 4, with rain and snow anticipated in the Western Himalayan areas from January 1 to 3. Heavy rain and snowfall are expected on January 4 and 5. IMD scientist Soma Sen Roy mentioned that the previous western disturbance has moved away from North India, leading to reduced cold wave conditions, which now persist only in the Western Himalayan region.

New Delhi’s minimum temperature was recorded at 10.3 degrees Celsius on Monday, exceeding normal ranges by 3.5 degrees. Air quality fluctuated, with 10 centers recording poor air quality while the rest fell in the moderate range, as reported by the SAMEER app. The IMD expects haze and dense fog in the mornings, later clearing up with a possibility of light fog in the evening and night. The maximum temperature is expected around 18 degrees Celsius, and the minimum around 9 degrees Celsius.

Cold Wave Continues to Bring Severe Chill

In Kashmir, Gulmarg and Pahalgam are experiencing extreme cold, with temperatures falling several degrees below freezing. However, there is some ease in cold conditions elsewhere in the valley. Gulmarg, known for its skiing activities, recorded a minimum of minus 10 degrees Celsius, two degrees lower than the previous night, while Pahalgam, the base camp for the Amarnath Yatra, noted minus 9.2 degrees Celsius, a slight drop from minus 8.5 degrees Celsius. Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 0.9 degrees Celsius, just above normal. The Kashmir Valley is currently undergoing ‘Chilla-e-Kalan,’ often considered the harshest phase of winter, which commenced on December 21. The most significant snowfall typically occurs during this 40-day period.
